My Allis Chalmers B

Hello all, my temp guage came in Wednesday and I got to go pick it up Thursday and I got to put it on today and got to test it out and see how it worked.But, I could not keep my tractor running long enough to get the water up to operating temp. The guage did leak a little bit, But it works. Cost me a little under $62.00. Now, when I start up my tractor, I do not have any oil pressure. None at all, The guage dosen't move at all. So I took it off today and cleaned it out and tested it with a bike pump and the guage works. But when it is on the tractor it dosen't work, When I took it out today I turned the tractor over with the battery, But no oil came out where the guage goes. What could be wrong? Oil pump, clogged oil line??? I don't want to hurt my tractor. Anyway, Sorry for the long post. Thanks, TractorMike

I took all of the teeny oil lines off and shot lots of penetrating oil and cleaner in until it came out the other end. I took the filter bracket off and soaked it too.

Take the oil filter off and screw a canning jar in its place. Fire the tractor up and see if oil shoots out. If it does, the rod that sticks up in the middle of the oil filter could of been pushed down over the oil pressure guage hole, shutting it off.

take the small oil ines off behind the oil filter. remove the tee and use your oil gun to pump oil donw the tube toward the oil pump probably needs reprimed. this assumes you did not change the oil filter and leave the center steel tube out that sticks up into the filter???

Steve, I haven't changed the oil filter but I did take it off tonight to see what was in there and the steel tube was in there as well as a bunch of old black oil and sluge. Then I took off the thing that holds the oil filter on and there was a bunch of sluge in the hole thet goes in to the block, So I was cleaning out that hole and I found a piece of metal. It looks kinda like a washer but I don't think it is, It has a grove on one side of it and is like only 1/4 of a piece of whatever it is. What do you think it could be? And the sluge stuff that I was pulling out of the hole had like dirt in it. So I didn't try to start my tractor, but do you think it would hurt the tractor to start it? Any help would be appreciated.TractorMike

Pick yourself up a can of CRC Brakekleen, to clean out the crud out of those little oil lines. I did what Steve said, take the filter assy off and clean it all out. My filter housing on my "B" was all full of gunk too. The long straw that comes with the Brakekleen can worked great for cleaning out the lines,housing, & the oil filter tube.

not sure what whe steel piece was. the pump on the back, pumps 75% of the oil straight down the cam shaft and lubes the bottom end, bearings, piston rods, etc. A little of the oil coumes out the 1/8 inch pipe you see in the back and then it feeds the cam shaft and governor thru the 1/16 inch tubing. About 15% of the oil goes up the little tube in the filter, thru the filter and drains down the trough back to the crankcase. So you are not filtering the oil then sending it to the bearings. If you want to wash out the trough(valley) under the filter that is o.k. You can take it off and clean it good. make a gasket out if thick paper. the crud will fall into the oil pan. i would wash the hole with diesel fuel and flush it out the oil pan drain in the bottom. when everything is clean and reassembled, you can start the motor. You can leave the 1/16 inch tube off to the governor, or the gauge off the filter to see if anything comes out when you start it. again, fill the 1/8 inch pipe back to the pump before you assemble the tubein tee to it. Make sure the 1/4 inch steel tube from the pump pipe to the bottom of the filter is clean, thats how the oil gets to the gauge and the filter.
