I have a 1950 model C, never changed PTO housing fluid. Should I use motor oil or transmission fluid??

Use a hydraulic or transmission oil and save some heartache down the road. Some of the detergents in motor oils may foam and cause problems. The original 20w engine oil specified for this use was non-detergent oil. Check with your local AGCO dealer.

Bill,
The trans., diff, PTO, and hydraulic all use from this oil. The book calls for 20w, but the newer transmission-hydraulic fluids will work.

I have a C that has 15-w40 engine oil in it, cause thats what we used in the engines at the time. I have a B that has trans-hydraulic fluid in the transmission and 10-w30 in the engine. Unless you are trying to standardize on 20-w50 with the eigine, i would put thrans hydraulic fluid. It is anti foaming and fights water buildup better than ending oil. The tractor realy dont know the difference.
