D14 Crankshaft Endplay

I am rebuilding the engine for a D14. The crank is at the machine shop. They pointed out some crankshaft wear on the surface that rides on the thrust portion of the back main bearing. He says they can fix the excess wear ($$weld up, machine back down $$)What really happens if you do run one with excess endplay?? Are there bearings available that can make up the differance? I am having the journals turned for sure.

Am looking at similiar problem on AC B. Too much end play can add wear to rod bearings due to misalignment of rod and journal. This can also result in engine noise, especially when clutch is disengaged. I suspect some of the wear on mine was caused by an incorrect set-up job on the clutch. Lots of thrust pressure. My endplay mikes at .035, vs .003-.005 book. It's a real candidate for weld up and turn down, but since it is a "play" tractor and the journals don't need to be turned, I'm going to try a thrust washer to take up the play. Trouble is I'll have to make it, and haven't found special "pre-lubed" thrust washer material to work with. 'Prolly' just go with shim stock and see what happens. Luck to you.
