Reuse old sleeves ? model b

would it be correct to reuse your old sleeves if they are in fair condition after a good hone.
at this time they are removed from engine. will
use old pistons with new rings & new o rings for sleeves. Att; Dick L. & Steve. you will have the answer.

If you plan on doing much with the tractor I wouild stick pretty close to the recomendations in the service manual. I don't keep mine here at the house so I can't give you the specs. If you don't replace the sleeves, make sure you remove the ridge at the top of the cylinders as it will break the new rings or ring lands when the rings hit. If it is not going to see much use things can be pretty sloppy and it will still run pretty good, just won't last near as long. A lot of the oil burning problems with those engines come from worn out valves and guides. They aren't very expensive from TISCO

I just got done rebuilding a B-C motor exactly as you mentioned. Spent $65 on rings and $65 on gaskets. + $20 misc. Did my own valve job, and honed the cylinders. Price is right. The cylinders were worn a little, but cleaned up pretty good. The bearings looked pretty good. I reshimmed for .003 clearance. Figure it ran 50 years of hard life the first time,(maybe it had been apart before me), if it runs 40 this time ( I baby it) I'll be happy. I removed the liners and scrubbed it real good to get all rust and crud out. Dick mentioned that extra cleaning and test fitting of the liners is a must prior to installing the new o-rings. I popped out the center freeze plug in the head to look inside and clean a little more. New cost $2 at Auto Zone.

Steeve and Butch have ya covered purdy good. Only would add that when ya get the sleeves honed and they measurer .010 over the 3.375 or over 3.385 you need oversize pistons which are not sold under Allis Chalmers. I haven't found any but on the otherhand I aint looked real hard eather. If you get a measurement over 3.380 you will need oversize rings which they don't sell under Allis but a little research will find some. I buy rings for a 6 cylinder Chevy from the early 50's but if you check the sizes you might find them listed for other engines as well. They have to be each ground and filed to fit one at a time for a gap between the ends of the rings of .007 to .014.
