I have spent two years restoring my 1941 model B and today was suppose to be the day when I was complete by simply putting on my new radiator cap.

I've had it running for about a year and have been completing the cosmetics and electrical problems since. Last weekend I applied the decals and only needed a new radiator cap to finish. I've had the old radiator cap sitting on the dash of my truck for a couple of weeks and finally bought a new one on Friday. Today I noticed that I couldn't see the coolant so I went to top it off before putting on the cap. It wouldn't top off. I pulled the dipstick and saw it was all in the oil pan. I pulled the plug, draining the oil/coolant mix, and while the plug was out poured water into the radiator. It takes about three seconds before you see it coming out the drain hole. It comes out fast. One quart in the radiator equals one quart out the oil pan and just as fast!!!

My question is what is the most likely problem? I can't believe it is the head gasket although I hope it is. It comes out so fast that I don't believe there is anyway that water could pass through a crack or split that quickly.

Somebody please give me some good news. I'm pretty bummed right now.

It was the freeze plug and was a super easy fix. Of coarse when I fixed that two new problems popped up but nothing too tough. Thanks again.

Clickent, Sounds like the cast plug popped out in the head. Remove valve cover and check. I've got a WD-45 head on the bench right now that this happened to. Hope thats all it is. Dale

are you sure you had the antifreeze mixed strong enough? with the water going through that fast sounds like somthing busted. I don't know about the B but on a CA there are 3 freeze plugs on top of the head under the rocker arm shaft, could be that one of them let go. anyway wish ya luck.

I used some stuff called s-w seal you might try before tackling the head, block. About $6 from auto store. Supposed to seal, anti-freeze must be completely gone before sealing. I emptied cooling system, used a flush to clean the system, ran tractor for an hour draining radiator with hose in top of radiator, then let drain. Added sealer and followed directions. I think it helped or sealed the problem. Had anti-freeze in oil, none there now.
