Hi, I've put off puting this tractor together for to long and since it gets to hot in the house sometimes I figure this is as good time as any.
This tractor started leaking water in the oil pan. We ended up taking the head off and took it to a very reputable head welding shop, after a thorough examination he determined it was past repairing. I finally found a replacment, got a rebuild kit, had the valves ground and installed, and parked everything.
My delima is I've been told, by different sources, that this probally was A-C's poorest engineered tractor. Mainly in that the engine was for the D-17 and they installed a turbo-charger and didn't have enough radiator to keep the engine cool enough, hence the head problem. SoI'm wondering can I install a radiator with more cooling capicty, which is difficult because of frame comstrictions. Or should I install a
D-17 exhaust manifold and junk the turbo, or just rebuild the tractor as an original D-19 and use it for mowing roadsides and watch the water temp very carefully? Thank you for taking the time to read this message and any input would be appreciated.

I can't believe the things I read on here. The D19 diesel is a wonderful tractor and I've never overheated mine once and I work the crap out of it. I had the motor rebuit and the turbo. I took it to be put on a dyno freshly rebuilt and it turned 77HP and let me tell you it is a working machine.
