I am going to replace the real main seal on the D17. as a spring project.My question is: Can I Split the tractor with the WFE attached and still be able to remove the engine & pan? The book says to remove the WFE before pulling the engine. Any tear down advice will be appreciated.

When I pulled my D-17 apart I pulled the whole front end off, it's a high crop version, and it really wasn't that hard. It's been a while since I did it and don't have access to the tractor from here in Malaysia to see how exactly it's set up. It seems like the steering box bolts to the frame rails and that would make the engine hard to get foward without removing it. My front end mounts under steering box and has two heavy solid beams that connect to the cross beam for the front end near the bottom of the cross member, and then goes to a support that is connected near the power director clutch housing. I have never seen a standard D-17 up close, but would expect they are made similar to where the front member is connected to the steering box. Maybe someone else can be more of a help.
