I was standing behind my C and noticed a little puddle of oil under the right side axle, It seems to be coming from a drain hole that is located on the bottom, middle of the axle. Any ideas what is leaking and from where.

I got this mixed up with a leak question below.
I will get a transmission and final drive picture posted as soon as I get them rounded up and on my fotki. With photopoint down I have to round up and upload before posting.

The oil seal that maybe might be bad is in where ya see the hole in the crud.

Whow! Looks like something that followed me home. Although mine have a PTO. Mr. Dick are you able to make something like that look as good as say the oil pump rebuilds you have shown in the past? If so I need info on the technique! Thanks Dale

technique is to get it up in the air so an old man like me don't have to bend to much and put in the hours with what ever tools nessary.

transmission should have 20 wt or hydraulic fluid. final drive will be 90 wt gear lube. should be able to tell which one by looking at the puddle. I also vote for the axle seal at the differential case. New brake shoes is a good idea.

ZIM, Dan is right on the money. The seal on tranny side is not to much trouble to replace. The one on the bull gear side is more trouble because the brake drum needs to be removed in order to replace. Dick L. has posted pictures in the past as to how to properly remove the brake drum (check archives). If brake drum should break it can be replaced. Might get new brake band also if you have to replace that seal. At least everyone of these tractors I've messed with has needed them. Be careful! Dale

It's probably coming from the transmission, either the seal around the axle is leaking or else the oil is leaking around the bearing carrier. I replaced the seals on both sides of my CA a couple of years ago. Possible it could also be leaking around the axle but from the final drive. This wouldn't be as likely however.

Dan, How much trouble was it to replace the seals in your CA? Mine needs it plus the hand clutch has a problem. Really think someone has torn the clutch apart prior to me getting the tractor.

I'm not Dan but seals are about the same for CA as the C. Get the seals right and final drive clutch may not be a problem. Oil on the clutch plate could be your concern, not sure what its doing. Have a CA that the final drive clutch unit was welded together. Ground welds down, replaced seals, put back together, used some and is fine(.005 on clearance between release bearing and clutch).Dale

Probably from the crankshaft seal but hard to tell with looking. You need to wipe all of the front dry and clean. Start the engine and use a bright light to see where it is coming from as soon as it starts to seep.
