Wd oil pressure

I just replaced the oil pressure gauge on my wd. It had always registered low. The new gauge registers just a hair over 20 with the engine cold. I haven't run at operating temperatures since I put on the gauge. Is 20 low for this tractor when the oil is still cold?

I have an original gage on my WD45 and I checked it in a lab with a hydraulic dead weight tester unit to see what psi equaled what letter of the word 'NORMAL'. The 'O' was 6psi, the 'R' was 9psi, the 'M' was 12psi. The operators manual says that the gage should indicate at the 'O','R', or 'M' during operation. A reading of 20psi cold on startup should be normal. Mine always goes up to the 'L' on startup. I use 5W30 in the winter with no problems after the engine is warmed up.

20 psi cold is what mine runs too. After it gets hot it will drop to a touch below 10. (I run 15W-40 oil.) The only gripe I have is the gauge no longer goes to zero with the engine off. It stays a touch or two below 10, so is there oil pressure or not? That is the question. Engine runs fine with no knocks so I guess its OK.

Twenty pounds is good. A AC pressure gage is maxed out at 6 lb. It is a high volume low pressure system. One likes to see more but it has worked for a long time. L Hud

Craig,
20 is good, cold, and maybe it will loose 5 or 6 pounds when up to operating temp. This pressure is determined by engine wear and by the density of the bypass oil filter material and the spring pressure on the pump bypass located behind the removeable plug in the block by the dipstick. A couple of small washers in the plug will increase the spring pressure. Usually very little oil is bypassed by the pump bypass so the washers may not help. Duey
