Where is the S/N located? This D14 has good tires and the lift arms won't lift at the rear.
I don't yet know how it runs. If this matters the steering wheel has no substance to it. Looks like a sun soaked tractor. At a dealer for $2400
It would seem to me that if it did run good at best it may be worth $1400 at most.
Any opinions? any suggestions what to look for.
This would be a project tractor.

$2400 isn't bad if the engine and transmission are good. AC made D14's from 1957 thru 1960. The late ones were 12 volt and had a silver grill with back bars and border. Transmissions were the weak point. Be sure to drive it and make sure the tranny doesn't jump out of 2nd or 3rd gear on a pull. If it needs work, dealer replacement gears are awfull pricey. After market gears are available and much cheaper, but you better replace both main shaft and pinion shaft gear pairs to match the number of teeth and the tooth angle.
On the lift arms, does it sound like the pump is pumping when you push the bottom lift lever on the left side under the steering wheel all the way up? Check the hydraulic oil at the dipstick on the right side under the gas tank. If it is low or out, the lift arms won't raise. They all leak! Put a couple of quarts of SAE 20w oil in and try it. Also check the oil level in the transmission and final drive. The dipstick is under the seat. If it is over full you probably have a pressure leak in the hose inside the liftarm housing or a bad seal on the lift arm cylinder in there. It isn't hard to fix.
These are really good little tractors. I grew up on one in the late '50's and 60's. I'm currently restoring a 1960 D14 with the black bar grill. I spent close to a thousand on the Piston/sleeve kit and repairing a cracked head and new valves, seats and guides.

They tend to jump out of 2nd and 3rd gear, but usually because they didn't go in far enough to begin with. The shift rails can be redone to make it go into gear farther, and this more often than not fixes the problem.

The serial number should be stamped where the engine and transmission are bolted together on the right hand side as you sit on the tractor. You may have to have a steel brush to clean the grease or paint off to see it.

I believe the serial # is stamped on the left side not the right. I know on my D-10 it is on the left side where the engine and trans bolt together.

The Intertec price guide gives:

57 D-14 fair:1550 good:2830 premium: 3450 60 D-14 fair:1710 good:3040 premium: 3710

It gives values for the other years between but this should give you some idea. Year wouldn't mean much to me as much as condition. These prices would be high for around here (WV).
