I recently purchased what I thought was an AC-B upon inspection and recerch the engine #ce137390
and tactor #c83579 have confused me. The front end is a fixed arch type with ball sterring arm at left spindle with the sector going to the almost straight up arm on the steering gear.Has the front been changed?The rear end has five bolt hubs. Were these on the B models? any info or feedback appreciated.

i agree. you have a B front axle, with a C steering box, and C transmission. I think the axle was changed out. Check the width of the rear axle from hub to hub. I would imagine you will find it is the wider C type. Also the rear fenders are a little different between the B and C if you want to compare to some pictures.

The straight up arm on the steering gear and the SN would seem to indicate a C that has an arched B front end installed (although the arm oreintation *could* have been modified, I guess). If the steering arm off of the gearbox went down it would seem to be a B - but the SN says C so there you have it. The C was reportedly somewhat wider in the rear than the B. Late model B's had the 5 bolt hubs so that doesn't tell us much.

That's one of the last C's you have there if that's what it is - 1950 model (SN 80518 - 84030). Could be it was originally a C with adjustable wide front end, which was damaged and later replaced with the arched one you have.

I may be mistaken, but if it still has a C steering gear, it would steer backwards if linked to the B-axle spindle. If your steering arm goes in the side of the radiator shell, you still have C steering. So it must have had a B axle substituted for the original C widefront. The tie rods would have been modified, and probably the steering ball will be unused on the left spindle.

If you have a drawbar it will look like a horseshoe on a B. On a C it will look more like a "(" or opened up horseshoe. Cs have bolted on wheels as most Bs have one large nut holding on the wheel.

Bill, i have a B and the outside of the tires are 60 inches wide. The axle shaft sets in about 3 inches on each side so i guess the entire axle is about 54 inches wide. The hub to hub dimension is about 50 inches. I would guess the C is about 8 inches wider, maybe more. Of coures i can set out the rims and revers them and make the tire outside width about 6 feet, but the axles are still about 54 inches total wide.
