OK, Heres one for you guys: I just picked up an Allis D-10 Series I that had no compression on cylinders 2&3. A head gasket you say? Maybe a couple of stuck valves? Got to be a stuck ring? I tore it down last night, The head gasket looks new, valves are fine. I pulled the guilty pistons and found some pitting in the center of the cylinders like maybe it was stuck at one time. rings look fine but #3 piston had some scoring on the back side. I have honed the cylinders and am ready to put it back together but I don't think I fixed anything! Did I miss something?

Put a ring down in the cylinder and check the distance between the ends of the rings. Push them down with a piston to keep them square. It should be between .007 and .014. If it is over .20 don't put it back togather without new rings. Also check to make sure that the ring gap is stagered. Took one apart about a month ago the the feller had the ring gaps inline and you can't get compression that way. Blows oil out the exaust when they are not stagered also.

Since you say the head gasket looked new, what are the chances someone got in there and changed it and set the valves ( either intake or exhaust) on those cyl's too tight? and they never got closed enough to make compression? I have seen it happen? I'd give that a look mike
