Hey Folks I got an old A-C tractor I found a stamped serial # (I think) on the engine block where the engine and tranny mates which is CE46410 I went to the serial number guide over there<<<<<<<< but dont know if it is a A,B,C, or what. And also dont know if this is the number I should be lookin' for since it came off the engine block, little tractor is in good shape except for a siezed engine and I'd like to fix it but need to know exactly what it is, its got a 3 speed tranny and hydraulics if that helps any, Thanks for any help, think I'll go look at pictures now LOL.

You have found the Engine Number. Now, check on the Right side (looking from the operators seat) of the engine block, brush off all the grease and there should be a casting number. ( I have a CA which had a casting number of 'AM2916') Look on top of the tranny, by the gear shifter and you should find a gear shift pattern inprinted there. Somewhere close to that is where you might look to find the Tractor Number. This will be the serial number and should help to identify the year it was made.

Well it looks like a B or C. That is an engine no. you found. Later Bs and Cs had the CE engine, early Bs had BE engines. The CE is more powerful, you probably have foot brakes too. The 3 speed transmission makes it a B or C. The B was narrower in the rear end than the C. Cs had dished wheels that bolted onto the hub, Bs had a mostly flat wheel that was held onto the axle with one large nut.

I agree with Tom, It is either a B or a C. If it is a narrow front (tri-cycle type) it is definetly a C because no B's were made that way.

Ok since looking thru the archives I have learned to look around the gear lever to find tractor s/n will do that today. (been one eyed for a few days since a glaucoma attack not seein' everything I need to I guess, waitin for that laser surgery LOL)

Thanks for your help guys I found the s/n just in front of the gear lever it came out to be a 1945 B
