I'm working on an Allis B that has a miss at high end... well. it's more than a miss..when it's at idle, it it runs like it should, but when you give it the gas, it runs on maybe 2 cylinders, reall erratic, makes a horrendous loud exhaust, and occasionally backfiring through the exhaust and intake.. and usually dies within a minute. the engine has no power at all, i mean 2nd gear will stall it out.. and even at idle, it dies ocassionally... what's wrong???? HELP!!! Jay B.

hello, check the shaft in the mag for side to side movement alot of play from worn out bushings will allow the point gap to change under a load .

I have seen them with the point spring broken or post binding, we used to bug friends cars by removing the spring, it would run but not well at all..lol

Hi Jay, Check your fuel flow to carb. Take the fuel line off at the carb and watch your flow for a while. Catch it in a glass jar and you can see if it has water or trash in it. If you have not checked your plug wires yet. You may have a problem there solid cores are recommended by many here with mags.
Let us know what you find out.

forgot to mention, the plugs are new, the mag shoots a blue spark, and the carb's rebuilt..

Check the timing. If the timing is too far advanced, they will idle very easily, maybe kick back when hand cranking too. If the timing is ok, pull the choke out when its running poorly. If its fuel starvation, it will smooth out. Hope this helps, Brian.
