I am in the process of replaceing the Hyd. oil pump on a 1965 or 1966 D17 gas. I have found the pump but don't quite know what type Hyd. oil to use. I have a manuel & if i am not mistaken it ask for power stering fluid (I think type F) which i could find at the time i was looking. my question is can i use a regular hyd. oil for this tractor?
would appreciate any feedback i may get.

we always used trans-hydraulic fluid in our D17-III. You can get it at farm stores, or even Wal Mart. It is comparable to a 20Wt oil, but has extra additives to fight water and foaming.

Mike, universal tractor fluid can be picked up almost any where, tractor supply, etc. your CA calls for 20 wt. , but that was years ago. Tractor fluid is used for the trans,diff, and hydrolics. 75/90 goes in the final drives(wheel ends)

Just put Chevron "tractor fluid" in the trans of our C in place of 20 weight.Couldn't seem to find 20 weight non detergent so it was time to change to the tractor fluid. The way the container read it is pretty good stuff and you can use for about anything on the tractor. I would still prefer 90 weight gear oil for the final drives though, although I am sure that just like it says it would work fine there too.
