How do you tell the blocks apart from the WC and the WD-45 and the D-17? If it's by serial number does anyone have a list? Thanks

Blocks on a WC or WD have a bolted on panel on the right side, whereas the WD45 is a solid casting on the right, no cover. I think the serial number on the lower left may also indicate a letter designation, but maybe only the 45 has that, I really don't know for sure. But if the right side does not have a panel, it's definitely a WD45 block.

You're right about the block,but you can't tell from the outside if its a WC/WD or a WD45 since all the 'enerds' are interchangeable
if a guy with a WC took his tractor to a AC dealership in 1957 with a busted block he'd probably would have gotten a block with no plate on the side.

I checked my tractors since the previous post and found this The WD45 block serial number starts 45- and the D17 block serial number starts 17-

I have recently purchased an Allis-Chalmers WD-45 to begin restoration and unable to find the serial # for the tractor. Can you tell me where to look for this serial #. The # we have been able to find does not register as a valid serial #.
