Can anyone tell me if a CA Allis engine is the same as a B Allis engine

Can some one tell me how to tell which engine is which? I have what is supposed to be a CA but I am not sure the engine is original. Thanks

If you drop the pan and pull a rod cap, The CA will have a oil hole in the crank. The B's and C's do not. The first engine AM 2916 number had a 9 and was only on a few 1937's most 1937's did not have the Allis engine. AM 2916-10 started in 1938. I have two 1938's I have one 1939 and it has AM 2916-11. My 1941 C has AM 1916-13. I also have a 1944 B that has AM 1916-16 as well as a 1945 C that has AM 1916-17 . I sold a B this summer that had a CA engine and just bought a CA that has a C engine.

All the parts will bolt up the same from one to the other. The four 1/2" studs that hold the front end to the engine will have to be from a CA as they have a 5/8 thread in the block. The studs for a B and C have a 1/2" 13 thread going into the block.

The B's started with the 125 cubic inch engine at sn 64501 in 1943. Anything earlier would be a 116 cubic inch engine, except the first 100 whihc were 113 cubic inch engines. If you don't know the year the B was made post the B engine's serial number (on the flange on the left side of the engine if I remember right) and perhaps we can compare that to those of engines on tractors we know the year of and help you out.

They are the same block, different RPM. .the early blocks were smaller cubes, late were 125 cu. in.
