I have a D-14 with a 12 volt system negative ground. Thought my battery was no good bought a new battery hooked it up hit the starter click no juice no lights nothing. Disconnect the battery hook it up again lights work hit the swithch same thing. Heard that maybe the starter was jamed pulled it same thing cleaned all the terminals so they have good contact same thing. I am at a loss I do notice sparks from the negative post when I hit the starter not alot. Anybody have any ideas?

Other guys are right on the money. Where be the sparks there be the trouble!

Neighbor had this same problem on his HD6 crawler but found that if he just stayed with it it would eventually come to life & crank fine. One day it was more stubborn than usual so he just kept trying & trying 'till it finally would try no more. Only then did he lift the cover off the battery boxes. On one he found that he'd melted half of one of the battery cable clamps away & the post it USED to be attached to was now a trail of lead across the top of the battery & down the side. After two new batteries & some new cables he's vowed to better maintain his battery cables in the future!

Grizz,
If you get sparks from a connection, that connection has to be bad. The sparks are from voltage jumping from one part of the connection to another. A poor connection will generate heat also.

When you see sparke on a battery post, you have a bad connection. Clean out the inside of the terminals and tighten the bolts.
