Stalling trouble on D-17?

My D-17 starts fine, then after in gear and bush engaged stalls. Choke saves it for a time, but no power. After stall will recrank in just a few seconds fine, only to repeat.
Same scenario whether gas cap on or off, carberatur just rebuilt with no help, points, plugs coil condensor replaced with no help. Pull air feed to carb. and still does.
Holding hand over carb. air intake with ose off and stalls, then does beter for a few minutes then stalls out.
Fuel line flows out fine when disconnect from carb.

Any thoughts???

Buddy of mine had this very same trouble with his tractor. He'd been down all the roads you mention. Tons of fuel from the fuel line when disconnected from carb but it still would quit & restart just fine in a minute or less just like you describe. I tore apart the carburetor & found that the head of a wasp had made its way through all of the plumbing & sediment bowl(no screen them but has one now) but he (or she) got its nose stuck in the needle valve seat. Worked like a leaky check valve. Not enough fuel to run right under load but enough to idle all day. If your carb bowl has a drain plug remove the drain plug & see how fast the fuel comes out. Once the reserve is out of the bowl, you will probably find a very slow trickle. I agree with Bill from up north. Maybe not enough float drop, binding on the side of the bowl os some such thing.

sounds like it is in the carb... If you can save it some with the coke,,,,fuel mix not set rite,,,or a pluged jet some where..Take it a part and re check it...check out them floats tooo..mite be hanging up ,,not leting fuel in ...

My guess is that the gas isn't getting by the needle and seat, fast enough, for some reason. Maybe float is dragging against side of float chamber or the float level is set too low of somebody installed an auxillary float spring(that is to strong) or there is some "kunk" blocking the opening in the seat.

Dennis,
You might check the flow of fuel by taking the line loose from the carb. If you don't have good flow, take off the sediment bowl and see if you have good flow from the tank. If not,remove the assembly from the tank to clean. Duey

"pull choke and it tryes ot save it". that tells me you are runing out of gas. I think the power jet in the carb is plugged. will start and idel fine, but no volume flow for power. I would disassemble carb and clean out jets.
