Disc set for a B model

What size disc setup would be good for a B? My B doesn't have the hydraulics on it, but I figured a pull type disc would be most acceptable.

I don't seem to find any used discs for sale, is there a reason? TSC and Farm/Fleet has a small setup for sale (30-36" wide), but first I'd like to atleast find something more suitable on the used market.

Any thoughts?

Old horse drawn disks will work on the B. My wife's dad gave one he had to her brother that had levers on it that changed the angle of the disks. When you ran the disks fairly straight their is little cutting action, by changing the angle they cut deeper. This one was about six feet and two people could pull it, so the B should be able to as well. Bs can pull just about anything a Ford 8N can pull.

A large number of these old disks were used for tractors.

A lightweight three-point set could also be adapted to use as a pull type disk with a little work.

Had a 10' disc when I was a kid, the B wouldn't pull it. I think 6' is about right.

I went to an auction last spring, they sold several 5-6' pull types, they went from $100 (for one I wouldn't have had in my yard) to $250 for a "fair" one. They are becoming desirable for the Ford crowd, which is plentiful here. However, close perusal or the ads, or a want add in your local shopper, should turn up some. Just be sure to inspect the discs and the bearings, bearings are 30-50 a pop and discs 8-15 depending on size.

Look for a listing in your state for a agricultural bulletin. People list all sorts of equipment in these (mainly older farmers). My local one is called listed online at>Link
Also>Link check with local tractor dealers that may have or know of someone who has a pull type.
I got a 6' 1950's model drag type(for free) from the guy who hauled my Allis-C home, because he could'nt use it anymore. It is not conveinent to try to pull it somewhere, but i only use it for myself so I pull it to the side of the field and grease it up unitl I use it again.

Matt, I you have a choice go with a 6 footer. As for finding a drag type disk, there aren't too many advertised for sale around here either but there are lots of them sitting around. Should be a cheap purchase, $50 maximum unless in very good plus condition. Most have set out their entire life as they are near impossible to back in a shed. To use the small disks that TSC sells you will need to ad a three point to the B, handy but expensive

I guess I've never stopped and looked closely at the TSC ones. I 'spose it makes sense that they would be 3 pt. They're probably still more than I want to spend anyway..... ..

A 6' double disc is all a "B" can handle if the disc is in good shape. Ken

several years ago we used a "C" to disc up yards prior to planting grass. I found and old 8 foot pull disc at a local farm. the guy sold it for $25. It had no hydraulics or wheels. there were two forward gangs and two rear gangs. They pinned at a 15 degree angle while pulling. when stopped you could pull the pins and back up 4 feet and the gangs would straighten out and discs point forward. you pinned it in that position and then just drive down the road. the discs acted like knives and left slits in the ground as you traveled, but did not roll the dirt the way it did when angled. I think a 7 or 8 footer is about right if you can find something like that.

I used to pull a three section drag in 2nd gear with a AC B.

I have a 6ft bush and bog. It works great. The anle is adjustable from the tractor seat via rope and handle. It was made by Rome plow. It is a great set up. You can bog and disk with the same piece. It also has a hitch to attach the drag. I wouldn't trade it for anything new.
