need help motor ran before put in wd45ac now i can't get it to fire it should because i didn't do any thing to the wiring at all

hello every one i got it to run purrs like a kitten the coil that was on it when i brought it had a 12 v coil i thought it was a 6v coil so when put a resister on the coil didn't get enought juice . so thanks for the help

i put a wc motor in a wd45 frame it has coil ingitioni got spark to the pionts but just don't want to start.thank you all for your help

If it's an engine swap as I am lead to beleave then check the polarity on the coil. It has to match the bat. pol. And the correct voltage. The coil hot wire from the switch should be connected to the + side of the coil for NEG. ground systems as are most later model engines. And the hot wire from the switch to the - side of the coil for POS. ground sytems, as are the older 6 volt tractors. Of course either way the back side of the coil goes to the points. The coil will work either way with the pol. as long as it matches pol. But the coils are only made for one voltage and are labled as to whitch they are. If you find either one of these problems on exam. You should replace the coil, point's, and cond. with new as you would more than likely have fry'ed on or the other or both if it was hooked up and tryed,and the two tractors ingnition systems varied. Dave made some good points...also if I understand correctly, you put a WC engine in a WD45? That WC shoulda been "mag equipped" , ya didn't run voltage from the '45's battery ignition switch to the magneto, did ya?...Steve

John, If it has a distributor, hook a jumper wire from the battery to the coil on the opposite of the wire to the distributor. This will give you ignition. If it doesn't start, check to see if you have fuel flow to the carb.
If you have a magneto, unhook all wires except the sparkplug wires and try starting. Remember, if the WC has a mag,the wires are wrong on the 45. If it ran before, it just about has to be a fuel or ignition problem. Duey

The motor ran "before put in wd45ac" - does that mean you replaced the engine with one from a WD45 or that you replaced the spark plugs with AC Delco R45's? If the latter that may be the problem - a magneto ignition does not run well with resistor spark plugs, and a R45 is a resistor plug. Try a non-resistor spark plug.

If it's an engine swap it could be a number of things ....!
