I am working with this loader that has been painstakingly restored by my father-in-law who has passed and, unfortunately, didn't teach me the fine points. I am having trouble with the steering clutches on this loader. I can turn left, but not right. Also seems that the left-hand brake pedal is locked down and won't release.

I last operated a D-9 in 1983, so I am a little rusty, but without a reverse, I have gotten myself in a corner (literally) while trying to sort things out.

I have no operator's manual to help me with any of the finer points I should know about this machine.

My good friend who could help me with this is deer hunting, so if anyone could give me suggestions to keep me busy until he gets back they would be sincerely appreciated.

You could have some linkage that is binding. or the parking lever is ingauged,this is located on the final drive housing. If you are
siting in the seat it would be under your left leg
Small lever with a black knob. If thats not the
trouble, on the final drive housing there is an inspection cover,[ITS ROUND] if you remove it,thats were the brake adjuster band bolt is.If that doesnt
help then you will have to open up the top cover
to the steering assy,somthing is rusty and will need work freeing,these tractors are easy to repair,all you need is an repair manual. GOOD LUCK Glenn

John, Im not a 3 expert, but you are right in thinking if the left clutch is disengaged or the brake engaged, it will turn left but not drive to the right. The steering valve should set on top of the steering housing below the seat. Follow the brake or clutch pedals linkage to the vavle and see what is "Stuck" on the left spool. could be the valve internal, or just a rusty cable or joint. If you got real problems inside, you might also want to post on www.ibdozing.com these guys also talk about construction equipment.
