Wd 45 power upgrades

hello, I have been in the process of upgrading my wd45 to make it a better working tractor.

I have rebuilt the stock motor with oversize 4.125 pistons and sleeves making it 241 cid. I have added a 12 volt electronic ignition, fatter plug wires, D17 carb, and a LOT of massaging on the head.

I am running 16.9x28 tires on combine rims and pretty much stock everything else.

It starts, runs, and everything works good except for the foot clutch, but I have new parts to replace that as soon as I have time to install it. ( I use the hand clutch currently and it works fine)

This winter/spring I want to increase the power even more so I can add more weight to the tractor and increase its pulling power/usefulness. and to run an additional Hyd. pump for two way operation and remote ports.

Any ideas? I am thinking larger camshaft, flat-top pistons, D17 head, Stroker crank/rods etc.

I want to have a solid well built dependable tractor, not a competition tractor. I am looking for maybe 65 hp. I figure I have probably 50 now.

Any help would be great

Make sure the new clutch pressure plate is the 9 spring type-the original is 6 I have a 1955 WD-45, with a M&W D-17 kit in it-the comp is 7.4 to 1, and the timing must be set very accurately, or it will rattle when it pulls down, with a 4-14" semi-mounted plow, but it seldom pulls down, anyway!! i just reduce the traction booster, and let the wheels slip a little more.!! I did have to take all the hitch shims out, and still have to hold the hand clutch in to keep the front end down... w/ all tires loaded. Ron.

You could sell it and buy a series 4 D17. That would have everything you want.

Better do what Craig says or just stay with what you have already done. You'll be testing the limits of your rear end if you do much more.
