Well I got a rebuilt carb and got my C running today. Now I noticed I don't have any oil pressure at the gauge at the side of the filter. Took off the filter and it looks brand new like it has never had oil in it. Engine was rebuilt by P.O. 3 years ago and was used for a year then parked. This is my 1st AC so i'm kinda flying by the seat of my pants. Have ordered manuels but have not arrived yet. thanks, Tom

Make sure there *is* a tube on the oil filter connection on the tractor that fits up into the oil filter some 4+ inches! I hate to state the obvious - if the 1/4 inch tube is missing I don't think any oil pressure will register on the gauge.

just curious. was the slow cranking a battery or cable problem, or did you just need a carb overhaul. if everything else is perfect, a lot of tractors will start with a slow crank speed.

If the filter is dry, then the pump is not primed. Behind the filter you can see a 1/4 inch steel pipe goint thru the block to the pump. Yes the pump is on the back of the engine next to the flywheel. You should be able to remove the filter and pump oil down the tube, to the pump, with a good oil gun. Reinstall the filter and try it again. The short tube that sticks into the filter can be pushed down too far and cut off oil to the gauge also, watch this. If the filter is dry, this is not your problem, now.

I think, if I remember right, the oil pump is on the back of the engine, driven by the camshaft. You may have to take the engine out of the tractor and prime the pump with a thick oil. Being parked all that time may have let the oil run out of the pump and the pump will not pump air too good. Others may have more detail, but I think this is how it goes. If you have the pump apart you may want to check the clearances in it, if it is work this could be the cause of it loosing its prime.
