My fatherinlaw has a 44 C that does not like to go or stick in 3rd. All the other gears are fine. It seems like it don't go all the way. If you hold it in 3rd and take off. As soon as you are rolling you are fine and you can take your hand off the shifter and it will stay in gear. It whines a little too. Any ideas would help. Ripping the whole tractor apart right now. The block is cracked between all the cylinders. Fun fun.

Thanks, Will P

The transmission has a squared off- round cover on the right side next to the shift lever. If you take out the 4 screw and remove the cover, the shift forks will come with it. Look inside. You probably have a couple rounded off gears and the metal has got into one of the bearings. You can see quite a bit by looking thru the cover, but will have to disassemble to fix much. I dont have a rebuilt engine, but have one that has been inspected and needs basically rings and gaskets to reassemble. Only have the head off and the pad open for inspection. Live in central Illinois if you cant find any thing closer.
