I have a AC WD-45, and it keeps getting locked up in reverse, any ideas, I purchased a used shift tower and am waiting for a used shifter to come in, but I was wondering if you have any ideas? Thanks, Brad I can get it out of gear by pulling the snap ring and shifter, and move the linkage, but was wondering if the ball on the shifter being worn would cause this, or the shift arm on the tower could be worn out. Any help would be appreciated, thanks, Brad

Look very closely at the parts book on the shift tower. There are two slugs that are part of the interlock. If these get worn off to much then you will get caught in gear. Study this very closely as this is usually the problem.

I have a similar problem with a WD45 we purchased last year - mine likes to lock up in 2nd. I bought a new shifter ($104.00) to replace the old one - same problem.

Some older mechanics have indicated that a washer or shim added under the snap ring and/or washer that hold it in place to make it sit slightly deeper may help this problem (to account for wear on the shifter ball and the washer holding the gearshift down). That's what I'm going to try next.

By the way, the new gearshift fit perfectly. The shaft is curved just like the original, but the shaft from the ball up to the knob is not tapered like the original.
