D17 Fuel Gage

My D17 gas gauge frequently gets stuck down at the empty position. I can use a probe thru the cap to free it and it works fine for a time, then alas same thing will happen. Can the cork be replaced by removing the 4 screws at the gage and removing the unit from the tank? AS usual, your responses are appreciated and my thanks to all!

Don, I replaced my D17 Cork - I didn't have much left. Take out the 4 screw, and lift the gage out. I went to a hardware store and got a cork that would fit. I then got some epoxy that could withstand gasoline and painted a coat or two on the cork. It has worked for 2 years now.

I'm not sure if they'll work or not, but this evening, I was perusing my Stewart-Warner catalog and they have two brass floats available and one Lifecell(I'm guessing foam? no pics in catalog of it) floats available seperately.

Brass float with clip attachment: 411290
Brass float with shepard's crook: 429354
Lifecell float with shepard's crook: 836092

If you know of a Stewart Warner distributor, you should be able to order them. Have no idea on price. If anyone knows of a good Stewart Warner distributor let me know. I need to order a bunch of guages. Could also scavenge one from a junk car or truck and adapt it to the end.
