WD hydraulic pump problem

My pump on my 1950 WD will settle when I have my plow raised. I have the pump set for drawbar control. Sometimes it will raise all the way then slowly settle. But after plowing a few rounds the plow will raise only half the way it is suppose to, then it sounds like the pump is maxed out(the sound it makes when the rams are fully extended.) I put the correct type of engine oil in it calls for 15w-40. I have some leaks on the ends on the rams, like an o-ring is out. Would anyone know what is wrong with my pump? Is there a certain problem in the pump, rams, or something else to make the plow settle? Please help, Thanks.

The hydraulic oil in your WD should either be 20W NON-DETERGENT oil or else a modern universal trans-hydraulic oil like Allis 821. Any 15W-40 that I've ever seen is detergent oil designed for diesel engine service. Put detergent oil in a high pressure hydraulic system and it will foam excessively and will not work.

what are you using for hydraulic oil. could it be getting air entrained in the oil and there fore pumping bubbles. maybe the oil is getting hot and thin?? just a couple ideas. you said something about 15-40. that is normally engine oil. is your hydraulic pump in the back and shares transmission oil? normally these days they use trans-hydraulic fluid. it dont foam.
