D17 generator to alternator conversion

I need to totally rewire a D17 series IV and I want to switch out the generator with a internally regulated alternator. I've done it before on a 900 series Ford but, I cant remember how I done it. Is there anyone out there with a good wiring diagram? Scott

Scott, punch the link shown below. It will take you to Bob Melville's excellent article on 6v-12v conversions, which includes a schematic diagram. It was originally written for a Farmall M, but it should work for your D17. HTH

just remember to change over the battery cables. all alternatoirs are negative ground systems. the no 1 terminal on the delco must be switched off when engine not running. the drawing referenced is good. the dropping resistor does a good job of making the alternator charge better. i use a 10 ohm, 10 watt type. buy at Radio shack for $2.
