Can anyone tell me if the B10 garden tractor was originally equipped with an Onan gasoline engine.

No, it had Briggs & Stratton cast-iron singles. In 1964-64, it had a Model 23D, 9HP engine. For years 1965 and 1966 it was renamed the BIG TEN to highlight the new 243431 engine. In 1967-68 it was called a B-10 again and came with a Model 243431 10HP engine. These later model 10HP B-10s are easily identifiable since they have black engines (instead of yellow) and they have a large Bumblebee on the side decals where the B-10 is, as shown here...

BTW, here's a view of a 9HP model. Notice the different color engine and different decals.
