I have a 1948 Allis B that had a Lucas magneto (just a shell) with a coil assisted start and the governor unit was just the bare minimum with the guts missing -looks like it just provided rotation for the magneto. they had a foot accelerator! It is 12 volt wired. Any way I have replaced the lucas with a FMJ and fitted a working governor unit. problem is now I have an extra wire (the one that went to the coil and am not sure how to wire it up now...and the wiring diagram I have looks like it is for a 6 volt?
I have tired starting her after and seem to be getting nowhere... I NEED HELP !
can you guys suggest any thing!

Peter, the magneto has the coil inside. therefore there is no wire. mag does not need a battery to start. works like a push lawnmower. if you have an old 12 volt coil, with the wire to the battery and a spare wire to your old mag, you can remove the whole thing. just run the new mag cap wires to the 4 plugs. there is a small terminal on the side of the mag. this is the kill switch, if you touch it to ground the spark will stop and motor die. if you acutally have a new MAG and not a distributor, then you need no wires at all.

Hey Duey!
The wiring diagrams are excellent!
I have one question..in reference to the plan labelled magneto...there is a wire shown as going from the magneto to the ign switch...can anyone tell me where it plugs into the mag..I cant seem to find a spare hole???
can you help...

Peter,
On the side of the mag is a small terminal bolt. Some have a small tab on this that is used to short out this terminal. The wire fastens to this terminal so the switch can short out this terminal. Duey

That wire Connects to the kill switch on the mag and the other end connects to the on-off switch on the control box under the steering wheel.this allows you to stop the engine from the tractor seat.
