Dad has a 1974 175 with factory AC500 loader. Tractor has been his since new. Starting to be in need of repair. Perkins is weak, hyd valve body not functioning like used to, needs seal on outboard axel. How much can you spend on this tractor before you are in hole. Sheetmetel all in excellent shape, has NEVER sat outside (maybe two or three nights) Thanks for any responses.

My dad just rebuilt our 175, and I don't think he spent too much. It starts on the first piston up now. I'm not sure which engine you have. It is either the 236 or the 248, our's has the 248. We also have the factory loader. Whatever you do, don't grind the gears. You will be spending big bucks then.

I don't think you will go in the hole fixin the 175 up. It is a workhorse. Think about what you would have to spend to replace it with a comparable rig in today's market. With the loader, I'll bet the cost would be in excess of $20,000. My 175 needs some engine work. I will fix it! I had rather have it than the new stuff. If you decide not to fix it up, I know of a guy over in N.C. that would love to have it.

I tend to agree with you, I think dad is just getting a little itch for a different one. He just got a JD2840 with a loader. In my opinion the 175 is a much better loader tractor. Hyds are faster and that hand clutch can not be beat in the barn. Does'nt even hurt to slip the wet clutch. Thanks for response, if he decides to sell I'll let you know on this board.
