C serial number very hard to read

My C has what appears to be the orginal serial number stamp but I can only make out "C" and a couple numbers. The numbers appear to be either stamped very shallow or worn down (I suspect very shallow since the tractor has been "babied" since the early 60's).

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to try and make the numbers more readable? Would some type of machining dye work?

If you have not already tried, you might be able to do a tracing. Place a piece of paper over the number and use the side of a pencil lead to color over the spot. Sometimes the tracing will show the number better than you can read it. Just a thought- sorry if you have tried this trick.

if you dont mind loosing some paint, you can wire brush with electric or air power and sometimes is shows up better without paint. if you are just trying to get an idea of the thractor age, you might list the engine serial number and someone might be able to "guess" an approximate year from there.
