Looking for some assistance please.

Have a D10 that refuses to start now. This past weekend I cleaned carb (Chemtool 12), drained and cleaned fuel tank, cleaned fuel filter and bowl then finally replaced fuel lines + new fittings.

After all this the rig refuses to start. Added fresh battery and have pwr. at starter switch (solenoid) but only get a clunk, clunk. I then proceeded to replace all questionable electrical connections. I suspect solenoid is not engaging. This is a small solenoid (silver, 2" long x 1" dia) mounts on starter. Part # 223334 or 233296.

Is this thing rebuildable? Seems I recall reading somewhere that you could disassemble and rotate the copper washer or reverse it or replace copper bolts? If not, are they still available at AGCO or Sandy Lake?

You can get the right rolonoid ( I think ) from a place called VALU Built tractor parts. Depending on if you have 6 volts, order # is A581744, for 12 volts, order # is A910687. I think this should be the right solonoid for your D-10. The Phone # is 1-888-826-3276. Also, Is there A quality farm and fleet near by ? They carry the same brand tractor parts, and if not on shelf can order. The price by my catalouge is #A581744=$18.99, #A910687=$14.99. The local TSC. Should also be able to get the part if don't have, but carries there own brand parts (better return service?). I don't know how Quality handels parts, they are farther away from me so I go to TSC. But, Quality has a wider selection of parts. Hope this Helps. FC Andy.

Shep, lets see if we are talking about the same thing. You say it will not start, but sounds like the problem is it will not crank. If you get a clicking noise the solenoid is trying to engage. You are right it could be the contacts inside the solenoid. When you push the button what happens is the contacts pull together and the battery cable to the solenoid is connected to the cable out to the starter. One good test is to jump the cables together on the outside with your jumper cables, or take a good battery , set on the ground by tractor, put one terminal to tractor frame, then touch the other to the starter terminal and see if the starter cranks. If it does then the soleniod is ot transfering power. you can also clean the terminals on the starter and battery and make sure everything has a good connection. Im guessing the tractor has the positive battery terminal grounded to the frame (it was when new). Also is the starter motor to motor good and clean where the starter is grounded properly.

The solenoid should be available at any auto parts supply or the places you mentioned. Even one off of an old car or truck will work. Duey

Duey -
This solenoid is very small, not like a typical automotive starter solenoid. It is approx. 1.5" O.D.and about 3" long. Thanks just the same.

Duey hit the nail on the head about your solenoid; they al function the same (although they may look and mount very differently). My Model B has an auto solenoid (not original!), but it still works fine. Remember, the solenoid is just a nice way to control a lot of amperage with a small switch. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I guess I misread the previous post and had no idea I could a std. automotive solenoid. Tonite I plan to "jump it" and see where I get with it.

I will see what I can do to locate a spare solenoid - how should I do this? I am thinking get # from starter and speak with NAPA. Comments?

The most important thing when getting a replacement is knowing the voltage of your system. Next is the bracket bolt pattern. Take the old one with just in case they don't have a listing. Also using the jumper cable to bypass the solenoid will tell you if the solenoid is the problem. Duey
