Either the plates are warped or the clutch is incorrectly shimmed. The clutch has three groups of shims. These can be seen & adjusted through the side, after the cover is removed. Each group of shims, originally had .085" shim in the low range clutch, .085 shim in the high range and .035" in the center. This creates .205" total shim stack (in each of the three locations). This total of .205" must be maintained for the clutch to have a neutral, this makes the linkage work correctly. As the low or high clutch wears, it will become necessary to remove shims, from that clutch, to tighten the squeeze on the plates. The same amount of shim thickness that is removed from the high or low clutch, must be added to the center, to keep things at .205 total shim thickness. If shims are not added to the center, in this fashion, the linkage will try to engage the clutch you are not using, yes, both of them if you are in neutral. The center shims are different than the high & low ones, so you must add different style shims than you remove, but the same thickness.(to maintain .205" total). All this is done evenly, at the three locations, through the access hole, on the right side of the torque housing, near the lever base. It's not as hard as it may sound.
