I have a 1954 HD7 that only turns to the left. I know the right steering clutch needs replaced. Looking for info on parts and if it can be done from the top or if you have to go in from the side. If anyone has any info on this it would be greatly appreciated.

my problem is similar, i,ve rebuilt left steering clutch control for no play. First time actuated after removing all play, play returned. I feel that the retaining half rings are off and the clutch is moving on the shaft. How do you get to the end of the steering clutch shaft? Can the brake drum be moved far enough to the right, by removing 8 bolts? Is there room to do this from under the steering lever assemby or is it required you go in from the rear plate of the transmision case.

You will probably have to rig up a slide hammer to get the final drive pinion out

Yes.
The clutch and brakes come out the top of the housing but you have to take the shaft they run on out the side. Are you sure the clutch pack is wore out? In order to remove the right clutch, you have to remove the LEFT final drive pinion gear. Then slide the bevel gear shaft out the left side until the right clutch pack can be lifted out.
