I bought a restored wd45 a couple years ago that was converted to 12V. It always showed that the alternater was charging in the AMP gauge(with an old battery). I just replaced the battery a couple months ago and now it's not looking like it is not charging in the AMP gauge. The battery hasn't gone dead. Shouldn't it still look as though it is charging even though it has a new battery? What do think?

If you still have a generator on the tractor it could have lost its magentic charge. Generators have to be "polarized" before they will charge. I actually have a 6 volt generator that lost it over a few days for some reason. To polarize it get a jumper cable, hold one end on the "B" or "Bat" terminal on the regulator, the briefly touch the "A" or "Arm" terminal on the regulator with the other end.

Of course if you have an alternator this doesn't work at all ...!

When your battery is new and fully charged you will probably not notice the ammeter charging. That is normal. Turn on your lights without the engine running for 10 min or so and you should see a discharge, then start up and you should see a charge for a few min.

Thats not uncommon. Some dont show much charge. If you really want to know what is happening, get a digital volt meter. With the engine off it will probably read 12.5 volts battery output. With the engine running you will get 13.5- 13.8 volts. The other way is ti connect a head light to the battery and leave it on for 4 hours and discharge the battery somewhat. After restarting the alternator will probably charge 10 amps for several minutes.
