what is the reverse gear ground speed of an AC c or B compared to the Ford 9n?

The faster you go in reverse on most of these tractor's the faster you will get to the hospital.

Thanks for the help, I have no interest in racing in any direction. The intent of the question was to determine the slowest reverse ground speed. A slow reverse speed is important when working woodlands.

I am glad that you arn't racing. I also have a "B" and lots of wood lands. Does your "B" have a mag?? mine does it to hand crank that will dislocate youre shoulder!!

I have a Ford 9N and was considering trading it for an Allis B or C, My favorite tractor is a series III D-12. I keep a loader on it for snow plowing.

danny, i have a B and i would not trade it for anything, but as far a ground speed it wont outrun a turtle with a broken leg. If you are in a hurry you might as well get off and walk. Just wondering, where are you going in such a hurry in reverse?

A 1955 used machinery price guide tells me that the B does 3 mph in reverse, a C does 2.75 mph while a 9N does 2.69 mph. But before you buy a B for backward racing, note that my 1939 AC owners manual for the B says 2 mph in reverse.

Allis-Chalmers B up to serial #64501 = 2 mph in rev
Model B after serial #64501 = 3 mph in rev
Model C (all) = 2 3/4 (2.75) mph in rev

As to Ford, don't know

Dannyj,

The Allis B & C both show 3.0 mph but I don't have the specs for the 9N. The 8N shows 5.3 mph but the transmission in the 8N is a 4 speed and the 9N is a three speed so I don't know if reverse is the same in these tractors.

A farmer friend of mine had an 8N (in addition to his WC) and reverse was extremely fast. He grew up with both tractors and he could really make them perform. It was a joy to see him back a 4-wheeled wagon full of hay into the barn. He had to open up the little underpowered Ford to get it to back up the "barn bridge" and he was busier than a "one armed paper hanger" while doing it. A fast reverse can be good when using a front end loader or snowplow.
