D10 only runs when pouring gas in carb? Why?

Last fall I fell into a deal on a D10 Series III - see archives "Mystery AC".

Now that winter is coming I will have some spare time. The D10 runs fair when pouring gas directly into the carb. I have replaced fuel lines, cleaned fuel bowl, drained and replaced gas.

Have not cleaned carb or pulled fuel tank. Any other ideas short of pulling gas tank and pressure cleaning the inside? Thinking maybe the carb has an issue?

Thanks for the info. I was hoping against hope that I had overlooked something. I will begin studying up on how to clean/rebuild carbs. Tearing the rig down that far will force some other needed TLC. Will advise of results when done.

If you have good gas flow out of the fuel line at the carb, you get to clean rebuild the carb. If you get no gas at the carb you get to clean the tank and still might have to clean the carb. If it were mine I would clean both before I did any thing else.

Please don't try to run the tractor while pouring gas into carb, had a friend that done that and the tractor backfired thru the carb and caught the container of gas on fire, end results was he was burned severely and destoyed his house and shop. Check to make sure you have a good flow of fuel to the carb, if not work your way back to the tank and see where the restriction is. If you do have a good flow then it is time for a carb rebuild. Bob
