I've had a 12 volt battery on my AC model c but want to add an alternator. I intend to isolate the alternator from the frame since it is a pos. + ground and the alternator is neg -. The brakets I'll handle but does anybody know of a quick wiring fix that would elininate the isolation

Just a suggestion: If your generator is "good" and functional, why not just use it. Wire the tractor just like original. This will result in a charging rate or voltage that is too high. If you then add a resistor (about 5 ohm. 10 watt ceramic type, as from "Radio Shack") in the wire to the "field" coil of the generator, the charging voltage should be correct and if it is not you can increase or decrease the resistance to "adjust" the charging voltage (be sure to use at least a "10 watt" rated resistor). You still retain the two charging rate function of the "headlight" switch. Maximum charging voltage should be 13.8 to 14.5 volts (in the "high" switch setting). I have a WC converted this way in 1975; it still works fine and still has the original generator.

you want to convert the tractor to negative ground at that time. starter will not know the difference. if you have a magneto start, no problem. if you have a distributor you will need a 12 volt coil. Its not a dificult change over, there are a couple good articles in the archives. ask if you need help. Recommend you use a delco 10SI from a mid 1970's chevy truck. A rebuilt unit only cost $30.00 at Auto Zone.
