Rocker arm position pictures

The first two pictures will show the rocker position. First is an overall view and then a close up. This is a very good set of rocker arms with very little ware. You can see that the third rocker from the left, which is on an intake valve, is not on center. Looking at the second picture, the fourth rocker arm from the right, which is on an exaust valve, is off center as well. The second rocker is somewhat as well. This typical.

My originals were worn much worse than that, and I had 6 exhaust and 2 intake rockers, of 2 different vintages. The misfire caused by one rocker binding on the valve (and the shaft wear and bind) was where the whole project started... two+ years ago!

I obtained a set of "good used" rockers and they showed anywhere from "little" to almost the amount shown on your "worn" picture. I dressed them down with a fine wheel then fine file to restore the shape. THey look really good, all lubed up (I use motor assembly lube (grease) as it will be another year or so before I fire it up).

Always something new to learn! Appreciate the help and info.

by the way, I put a thermostat in it - hopefully this will fix the cold engine attitude problem common to the B. Interestingly, I have opened up 4 so far, and never found one with a thermostat in it - apparently the springs rot off.

I got the stud in the right hole

They must be in the proper order. You might have to look close at the picture to see the EX for the exaust rocker arms and the IN for the intake rocker arms.

This is a picture of an exaust and an intake rocker arm to show the years of wear on their pads. This is a little more wear than most but the next picture will show why these had extra wear.

The stud with the grove is to transfer oil to the rocker arms and must be installed in the line with the oil fitting. The two rocker arms shown above came from an engine that had the studs mixer up as in the picture below.
