I took the carb and manifold off and discovered both intake port gaskets were sucked through causing major vacuum leak. All the manifold bolts were loose by my standards and all but two of the studs had been replaced. the two original studs threads were practically non-existent. With the help of some heat I tried to remove the two bad studs and just as I expected they both broke off in the head. I took the head off so I could remove the last of the studs at work were I have access to acetylene. I also noticed #1 cylinder valves don't seem to be as tight to the seat and the other cylinders and there are chunks missing from the head surface around the valves as if this engine has suffered from some severe pre-ignition. It started pouring rain just as I pulled the head off so I didn't get a chance to inspect the to of the pistons yet. Just thought I'd keep you folks up to date. I'll post again when I find out more.
