D17 power director

i just got a early d-17 that has a rod from the power director to a spring loaded rod that runs down to the spring adjusting nut by the snap coupling..... ....the way it is setup it seems that it must change the power director range along with the boost .....it sure looks to be an A.C. item but i have never had one or ever seen one... the man i bought this from said he never tryed to move that lever he just left it there {low range}....now even with this rod disconnected i can't move it to high range ..... any ideas what this hookup is for??? anyone that wants to see it e-mail and i will send a picture.....THANKS

A WD45 I once operated had a deal like you describe that was supposed to release the hand clutch if you hit a rock while plowing. Saved you from shearing a bolt in the plow. It wasn't hooked up to operate, but that is what the farmer told me it was for. When you hit something it sometimes moved and hit the clutch lever so it probably could have been made to work.

Sounds like a clutch kickout for plowing. When you strike an obstacle with the plow it would move the PD lever to neutral to prevent breakage on the plow.
