I just found this message board for Allis Chalmers. I'm hoping some of you might be able to help me out.

I live in a rental property with pretty bad landlords. They'll only replace something when it causes a danger to the building. Anyhow, I actually have an Allis Chalmers refrigerator in my apartment. It's most certainly old, but how old, I have no idea. Unfortunately, it leaks, and runs all of the time. I can't imagine how little freon it's working on right now.

I'm hoping you guys might be able to tell me when AC stopped making fridges, so I can use it as leverage to ask for replacement. I'd like to be able to tell the owner something like, "My damn fridge is 30 years old. Don't you think it's time for a new one?"

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading this!

If that one is shot ask your landlord for a IHC refer. (they made those too.) I am sure it still works fine.
Sorry just a litle humor. A collector may give more than it is worth. and you could buy a 17 cu ft. frigidaire for about $320 Brand New. gosh this is about the silliest question I ever delt with on this board.
But we can be a silly bunch!

Those A-C refrigerators were made by an Italian company for A-C in the early 1970s(1971 or 1972?). A-C sold 'em for only one or two years because they sold very few of them. I don't have my A-C information book at work, so I'll have to check it when I get home and post back. At any rate, you do have a thirty-year-old refrigerator, so I'd tell the owner I need a new one!

You might find that someone who collects AC stuff would want the old refrigerator. Might have some value to a collector. You might want to be the one to "dispose" of it, could make you a few bucks. Just a thought. Good luck!
