Trip Bucket

I recently bought an AC with a trip bucket. I can't figure out how the trip bucket works. Does it rotate forward or backward to dump? I think it's possible the "stop pin" strip on th back of the bucket is mounted upside down.

I also have an Allis Chalmers trip bucket loader. If the bucket is empty it is quite well balanced on the pins and does not easily tip forward when it is tripped. The higher the loader arms are raised, the less likely it will tip forward when tripped. When the bucket is loaded it is generally heavier in front than back, hence it will tip forward easily to dump the contents. You may want to look at the rear of your bucket where the trip pin engages. My bucket has an adjustable part there. You should experiment with different settings to help you "lock" the bucket back (after dumping) and effectively perform your tasks. It takes some practice to get good at using the trip bucket effectively.

Hi Dave. I have a WD Allis with a WD9 trip loader. On the back of the bucket there is a welded bracket that receives a round pin (1 1/4" or so) that is pulled out to trip the bucket. When the round pin is IN the bracket it is locked. The pin is cable operated on the right side by a handle on the loader arm near the operators seat. The Pin I was talking about is spring loaded also. I can send you pictures of mine if you want. Good luck.

Orngboy, thanks for the response. I have all the features you mention on my WD trip bucket. My question still is, does the bucket rotate backward or forward when the pin is pulled. The pivot point on the bucket would seem to indicate that it rotates backward. If that's the case then the bracket is mounted upside down. As it stands now, I have to dismount and rotate the bucket forward by hand.

Hi again Dave! :-) The bucket rotates/dumps forward. Mine is hinged on the right and left side INSIDE the bucket. I'll take some pics of it in the next couple days and e-mail them to ya if you aren't in a hurry. Been pretty busy here. I would sure do that for ya. Let me know on here or by e-mail. When the pin is pulled, the weight of whatever is in the bucket drops forward by gravity. Instead of tilting forward like a hydraulic dump bucket.
