what is the difference between a WD model and a WD45 model allis chalmers?

Tommy, The WD came out in 1948 and the improved WD45 came out it 1953. The basic difference was the Power Crater engine in the WD45. It had some 6 or 8 more HP and it was built with a complete cast walls instead of having a plate on the right side. Also, most of the WD's had a straight gear shift while the 45's had a curved one. Other than that there wasn't much difference. I have owned 3 WD45's and a WD with the Power Crater engine installed. I never could detect any difference in performance.

How do I know if I own a WD,or WD45? This one has a mag, engine crank with 12 volt stater tricycle wheels. When I tradered for it, she was running. I may have the mag timing off or a bad mag. how can I check thiis. You may find this interesting, it has a front end loader with. How much can it pick up? Thanks, Ray

The last year or so of production of the WD's had the curved shifting lever as well. This was found on tractors with the constant mesh transmission as opposed to the old sliding gear type transmission.
Also, the engine on a WD45 is bigger than a WD. The WD is 201 cubic inches with a 4 inch bore and stroke. The WD45 is 226 cubic inches with a 4 inch bore and 4.5 inch stroke. Both are rated at 1400 full load RPM. Also, the WD45 was equipped with larger tires standard from the factory.
