I am looking into buying an Allis Chalmers 653 Dozer (circa 1975). I can't seem to find any information on this model off the internet. Does anyone have any information on this model of dozer? I am interested in knowing if this was a well built machine, can parts be found, were there particular problems with this model, etc. etc.

I too have an early 70's Allis Dozer- a 652. Was always told it was the same thing as a HD4. HD4 was made up until 1969. After that the Allis Industrial division made the 650 series from 1970-75. 652, outside blade, 653 inside blade & a 655 was a loader. My 652 to me is about equal to a 450 John Deer though many may hoote at that. The machine to me was ahead of its time & has been real good to me. I particularly like the radiator mounted to the rear of the engine in front of the operators feet. Pulls all the heat away from the operator & cuts down on the constant fear of a tree limb through the radiator. Just one of the things I find on the Allis to be engineered ahead of its time. I'm sold on mine. Manuals are easy to come by too. Parts aren't too hard to find either. AGCO sells alot of new stuff. Mine just got new tracks & sprockets last year...$3600..

The 653 is a nice little dozer. I have an HD4 which the 653 was based off of. Parts are more difficult to find than a newer dozer but so far I have been able to find most parts at local dealers. Norm Swinford's book on Allis Chalmers 1914-1985 has a few pages on the 653-655 crawlers. Good Luck
