Getting C ready for winter

Some of you might know that in Wis. fall lasts ten hours and winter starts in a week or two and runs to May. I want to set my C up for winter snow plowing. I have a eight foot plow on the front of the tractor now. I need any info you can give me on things like, do I need chains? can I pick up used? wheel wieghts, are they a must? etc.. thanks for any info or tips.

I grew up in western Wisc. so I know what you are up to. You can not possibly get too much weight on the rear of that little Allis. More is better or you will just spin!We had a platform on the three point of our plow tractor that we put the buggest rocks we could find on. A barrel of water works good. Chains are a must too. You can try that plow but I agree with the others it sounds a bit too wide. Just wider than your rear wheels is about right. Does the plow angle? The width of the plowed pass will be less if you are angled over. But the you will probably need weight on the front end too so you can steer in a straight line. Pray for no snow!! Enjoy! Here in Washington we sometimes get enough to play in, I mean plow!

I too think and 8' plow is maybe a bit much. Don't let the snow get too deep especially if it is wet and heavy. With the tires loaded and chains you will probably do OK, especially if you cut off 6 or 8" from each side of the plow. Have a C also, but don't remember just how wide the plow is. Wheel weights will help and maybe you can get by with 8' with some wheel weights and loaded tires, and good chains. It depends a lot on snow conditions too. Tom

An 8' plow sounds a bit much for a 'C' to push. No matter what you push with it, you could start with filled tires (CaCl, not lightweight anti-freeze) and chains. One will give you better weight on the tires and the other will help them not slip.
