I replaced the plugs, points and condenser. Overhauled the carb. Replaced the exhaust and intake manifold gaskets. I get some of condensation on the outside of the carburetor. Does this have anything to do with the problem?

Do you know what to distance to set the float?

Any suggestions on how to fix the problem?

I had this problem with a ca & the exhaust manifold was pluged up from not working it hard enough to keep the carbon burned out of it
Good luck

Thanks for the input. The tractor will restart when it dies. The engine sputters and wants to die. The tractor will restart. When this happens I tried opening the gas cap, but doesn't change tractor performance. So that would possibly make it a coil problem or a plugged gas line. Would the coil make it sputter or would it just make it die and not restart?

Someone mentioned that I could have a head gasket leak. When the tractor warms up, water leaks into the cylinder. Causing the loss of power. How would you know if this was happening?

The odd thing about this is that my Ferguson TO-30 has started doing the same thing.

normally when a coil starts to fail it opens circuit and not partial work. after it cools it will start again. yours sounds more like fuel, or is the timing so far off that when it is hot it pre-ignites and acts like power loss? leaking head gasket will get water inside. that spark plug will clean right up and be shinny. but it will do it hot or cold, not part time. also the radiator would be pressurized if you had this problem.

I had exactly the same story with my old Ford 9N about ten years ago. Finally replaced the coil and it has run great (every day) since.

fuel venting- vapor lock as Dave said is the best bet. also could be temp related in that the coil breaks down and open circuits when hot, then closes when cool. You did not say how long till it restarts. Does it have to cool down, or can you open the gas tank and let air in??? How about drain plug on the bowl when it quits. Is there gas in the bowl when it quits? Pull no 1 plug next time it stops, crank and see if you have any spark? Narrow it down to fuel or spark.

Is the vent for the fuel tank unrestricted? How is the fuel filter? Does fuel flow good when the fuel line is disconnected at the carb? In setting updraft carb float levels when you don't have the spec's I have gotten by in holding the carb body upside down and adjusting the float tab to make the float sit parallel to the carb split line.
