D-14 PTO Shift Lever Leak

The PTO shift lever on my D14 is leaking fluid where it enters the tractor housing. Can I repair this by removing the transmission drain cover plate at the bottom of the housing or do I need to split the tractor to replace the seal?

To change the seal you must split the tractor. Until then you can dry it off real good, take a piece of valve packing string , coat it with RTV sealant and wrap it around the shaft tight against the transmission, and tie it tight. This will usually slow down the leak or stop it entirely. This will buy you some time until you have to split the tractor.
